Our Proven Methodology
We Are Committed to Keeping Suicidal Patients Out of the Hospital Whenever Possible
Our Proven Methodology
Our treatment approach is founded on two key pillars: the Family-Inclusive Treatment (FIT) model and the Narrative Crisis Model of Suicide (NCM) framework.
Key Components
Family-Inclusive Treatment (FIT) Model:
- Encourages open communication among patients, families, and care teams.
- Incorporates family members into therapy and medication management.
- Provides psychoeducation to empower the individual and family with knowledge on mental health, medications, and the treatment process.
Narrative Crisis Model (NCM):
- Breaks the suicidal process into four distinct stages:
- Stage 1: Long-Term Vulnerabilities
- Stage 2: Recent Stressful Life Events
- Stage 3: Suicidal Narrative
- Stage 4: Suicide Crisis Syndrome (SCS)
- Provides tailored interventions for each stage, ensuring personalized care.
Family-Inclusive Treatment Model (FIT)
The FIT model is a unique approach designed to maximize the support that families can provide to a person in a suicidal crisis. At the heart of FIT is open communication about symptoms, medication, and treatment while maintaining strict confidentiality on personal matters unrelated to psychiatric symptoms and treatment planning. This approach has been refined over the past decade at the Galynker Family Center for Bipolar Disorder, demonstrating its efficacy in even the most challenging cases.

Narrative Crisis Model of Suicide (NCS)
The NCM framework outlines the gradual progression of a pathological mental process culminating in the acute suicidal state of mind, termed Suicide Crisis Syndrome (SCS). To ensure their safety, all patients undergo NCM screening and staging. This evidence-based framework forms a cornerstone of the Suicide Prevention Center, helping clinicians design personalized treatment plans that may include medication, psychotherapy, and family support.
